By Nik Angela

#Free on #KU

Even in the middle of the Great Depression, Bridget Sullivan was an unlucky woman.

Trying to run from the shadows of her late father, and make a new life for her younger sister and orphaned nephew, she leaves the slums of Chicago to claim a small inheritance in rural Kentucky. When an unfortunate circumstance puts her survival at the mercy of a handsome, small-town bootlegger, Bridget is left with the realization that her family may be easier to protect than her heart.

There was nothing in Everett Jordan’s life that wasn’t under his control.

Rules kept a roof over his head and his brothers fed after losing his parents. There hadn’t been time for anything but business and making money since he was seventeen—until a rainy afternoon when everything is turned upside down. Suddenly, Everett’s rules and routine are nothing compared to the desire he has for the strong-willed woman he just met.

They can’t deny their growing attraction to one another, but when dark secrets surface from Bridget’s past to threaten their families, can Everett put aside his stubborn pride before it’s too late?

About The Author

As a teenager, I would hide in my room to read my favorite romance novels when I was supposed to be doing my homework. I hope, these days, that my parents think it was worth it.

I am the mother of three adorable boys and I am fortunate to be married to my best friend. I live in Austin Texas where I am determined to eat all the barbecue in town.

I am in love with science fiction, fantasy, and the paranormal and try to use all of these elements in my writing. I've been told I'm a little bloodthirsty so I hope that when you read my work you'll enjoy the action packed ride that always ends in romance. I love to write series because I love to see characters develop over time and it always makes me happy to see my favorite characters make guest appearances in other books.

In my world anything is possible, anything can happen, and you should suspect that it will.
I'd love to hear from you!
Cheers!!

Kate Willowbrook dreams of a life filled with beauty –– a man who loves her, friends, and a home. At eighteen, Kate's dreams are replaced by nightmares when she witnesses a crime. Kate runs, never settling down or trusting anyone. Ten years later Kate discovers the small town of Lakes Crossing and Noah Reed.

When Noah’s wife is killed in an accident, he buries himself in work and family obligations, believing he will never find love again until he meets Kate. The more he learns about her, the more he is drawn to her and his protective instincts kick into overdrive.

Noah is everything Kate has ever dreamed of, but his take-charge attitude is scaring up old demons she fought hard to bury. If they can’t find a way to strike a balance that satisfies both their deepest needs, they could lose their second chance at love.

Excerpt

Kate pierced him with her green eyes. “I’m certain there’s no shortage of women who would be happy to go out with you. Why me?”

Noah’s cocky grin faded into a soft smile that stole her breath. His eyes darkened as he focused on her. She could feel the heat creeping up her cheeks again, and she couldn’t believe she asked him that question. She didn’t even know why she did, except that she wanted to hear his answer. If she let herself fall for this beautiful man, with a killer smile and the softest brown eyes in the world, she’d fall hard and fast. If she were just a toy to him, one that he got bored of and discarded after a while, she’d be devastated. She had lost so much already and survived, but Kate wasn’t sure she could survive his games. If she allowed herself to hope and dream of a life with Noah but then lost it all, she’d crumble, and no amount of superglue would put her back together.

 Kate waited for his answer, her eyes locked with his and he didn’t let her down.

“Yes, I won’t deny that I’ve dated other women and there are those who wouldn’t turn me down for a date, but they’re not you.”

Noah reached for her hand, and she let him feel the tremble that ran through her as he engulfed her small hand in his. He raised her hand to his mouth and kissed her fingers, never taking his gaze off her.

“You say you’re not special to anyone, but that’s not true. see something special, someone special. I know we don’t know each other very well, but if you give us a chance to change that, together, we may be something special. We won’t know unless we try.”

Kate’s breath hitched, and her heart squeezed. Jesus, the man had a way with words. How did he know what she needed to hear? Now she understood what Roberta Flack meant when she sang, Killing me Softly. He was clawing at the door to her heart, and she didn’t think she was strong enough to resist him, even knowing that she may get shredded if she let him in.

Kate dropped her gaze again as they began to fill. Her breathing was ragged, and her heart broke its confines and was on the run. Whether it wanted to be caught by Noah or not, Kate wasn’t certain.

Special.

Kate had waited thirty-one years to hear someone call her special. She struggled to rein in her emotions and push back the tears that threatened to roll down her cheeks. She wanted to go out with Noah so badly it hurt. She wanted to get to know him and to be a part of his world, but she was terrified. Good visited her very few times in her life. The instant it arrived, she began preparing for its departure. Good was a temporary visitor and a fickle one at that.

“Come on, Kate. I can sense you’re afraid. I swear I’m a nice guy. I’ll do my damnedest not to disappoint or hurt you. Take a chance. Take a chance on me.”

Kate heard the vulnerability in Noah’s voice. She explored his handsome face, a face she was sure she would never tire of admiring. All traces of his earlier cockiness vanished. Instead, it was replaced by a rawness, an earnestness, a tenderness she’d never seen before. That was the look Kate would remember for a lifetime. Years from now, she would say that was the exact moment she knew, if Noah Reed asked her, she would be his for a lifetime.

Kate let out a slow breath and with a soft smile, she whispered, “Okay, Noah Reed. I’ll take a chance … a chance on you. I’ll go out with you.”

About the Author

Norah lives a double life. By day she is a suit-wearing, prim and proper, professor, administrator, researcher, and lecturer. By night she is a PJ wearing dreamer and writer of books that make people sigh, smile, cry, laugh, fall in love and believe in second chances.

Norah lives in Andover, New Jersey with her husband of thirty years, a cranky geriatric maltipoo, and an obnoxious cockatoo who runs the house and terrifies all its inhabitants.

Norah discovered the joy and escapism that comes from reading at the age of twelve and swears books saved her life and her sanity. Through reading, she has travelled the globe and learned all kinds of equally useful and useless skills such as the proper way to eat a pomegranate, carve a watermelon, or bathe an elephant. These are skills she has passed down to her two daughters who are incredibly supportive, but often wish she had a wider scope of hobbies.

Norah has a long publishing history in academia, but she started writing fiction recently. In July 2016 she published her first work of fiction, R.I.L.Y. Forever with Evernight Publishing and in January 2017 her second book, Everything I’ve Dreamed Of, was also published by Evernight Publishing. Currently, she is working on her third novel, Six Months. Digital and print copies of her books can be purchased at Amazon https://www.amazon.com/R-I-L-Y-Forever-Norah-Bennett-ebook/dp/B01IFH66CK/

Interview- H.R Savage, Author of Vengeance

My REVIEW of Lost in Vengeance by H R Savage

Shifter Catrina Macintyre has roamed the wilderness of Alaska as a lone wolf for six years. Imprisoned in her wolf form by a promise to her mother, she seeks the opportunity to discover the truth about her parents’ murders. When an Alpha saves her and takes her to his pack, she has to decide whether he will aid her...or destroy her.

Killian Stone is the Alpha of Wolf Creek, determined to save what the Shifter race is quick to dismiss or kill: lone-Shifters. After years of disappointment, finding Cat was a relief. That is until the intriguing and challenging she-wolf reveals a past that could put his pack in danger.

Their undeniable attraction toward each other threatens to collapse Cat’s defensive walls. She’s torn between the hope of a future, and the lingering pain of her past. The truth may be more than either of them anticipated, threatening not only Cat, but the whole Shifter race.

Will Killian convince Cat to abandon her quest for vengeance before it destroys them all?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This was a very amazing read. I was very surprised with this book and I'm so happy that I read it. I was never a shifters fan but after reading this, I am sure I will be reading more about it! I hope H.R Savage writes more about this series. I would love to read Jamie and Sullivan. She definitely writes story where you sure feel something for the winners as well.
The love between Killian and Cat was sweet, hot and touching. There are lots to take in when you fall in love and love makes us crazy and ready to face any danger that comes with it. The story line created by the author is very deep and well developed. You will be lost in the suspense. Cat is looking for revenge and will she be able to handle herself when she finds the culprit? Will she be able to control herself and save the ones she loves? Will Killian accept Cat and fight for her? Will both of them find love together?
These are the questions you will have when you read it. Highly recommended!
INTERVIEW
Q) Sooooo…How do we start? Hmm...Tell us something or anything about you?
Oh gosh, this question always gets to me because I never know how to answer. I’m from Southern California, and no I don’t like living here lol. I would move if I could! I’m obsessed with Scotland, and was before Outlander aired on TV (haha). One biggie is that when people meet me in person, they don’t think I can write (or read) such sexy stuff. Apparently I look really innocent. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing!
Q) What were you before becoming an author? Tell us in brief!
I was a stay at home mom, and now I’m an Administrative Assistant on top of being an author. I wish I had more time to write like I did when I was staying home, but the job has been nice.
Q) Tell us about your journey from reader/Blogger to an author?
Reading was an escape for me growing up, and I started reading romance at a very young age. All the sudden I would get these story ideas in my head and start writing them. I’ve almost always written in some way, but struggled to complete a story and stay interested in it. Then I became a stay at home mom, and one day I had the dream. The one that inspired Lost in Vengeance. Blogging just kind of fell into place at one point while writing, and I don’t update the blog as much as I should.
Q) What are the few difficulties you faced in your journey?
Oh gosh that list can go on haha. The first huge difficulty was when my characters ended up with multiple personality syndrome. They were about 5 different characters rolled into one. I basically had to re-outline everything, interview my characters, then go back and completely re-write every scene for eight chapters.
Another issue I had was deciding on publisher vs. Self publishing. That was really hard for me. I desperately wanted to self publish but knew that I couldn’t afford to do it the way I felt was the “right” way. So I got to suffer through months of submitting to agents and publishers, crossing my fingers that someone would love my book as much as I do.
Q) Killian is so hot! Did you have a muse while writing him? I loved his steamy scenes with Cat! :D DAMN HOT!
Oh god, I’m happy you think so. In a way, I think Killian was a mish-mash of a couple muses. The closest I could probably come to a physical representation of him would probably be a young Hugh Jackman. (Think Wolverine lol). Although...I did see a Thunder From Down Under dancer who could have definitely fit in for him ;-)
Q) Tell us about few of your weird habits? ;) We all have them- I hate wearing pants and most of the time I am pantless lol
I don’t like wearing shoes. A huge influence on Cat’s hate for footwear was from me lol. I will walk out to the mailbox barefoot, all over my backyard, strip them off at the beach. Anywhere I can get away without wearing them.
Q) Why made you decide to write about shifters? Did you do any research while writing?
It wasn’t necessarily a decision. I had a dream, I wrote about it, and I went with it. But I did put a decent amount of research into the mythological background. With any paranormal/fantasy element it’s important to make a backstory, so I created one using Celtic Mythology. I may not be 100% accurate, but I tried to be. I also went to a small zoo in Big Bear called Big Bear Alpine Zoo at Moonridge. They have some beautiful wolves there that have been rehabilitated. Then I needed a glossary for some of the words because I realized how hard they are to pronounce. I think that was the hardest part! There’s not too much on the internet regarding how to spell the pronunciation for Scottish Gaelic words.
Q) Who was your muse while writing Cat? She is definitely my favorite heroine and her strength really surprised me. :)
A huge muse for Cat was Khaleesi from Game of Thrones. She started out this weak, almost helpless woman who grew to be strong and courageous because of circumstance. I’m glad you enjoyed her. She was really hard to capture; such a mix of innocence, vulnerability and strength.
Q) What are your next plans? What are you writing next? Please tell us it’s Jamie please!!!
Oh, god I’m so excited! The second book in the Wolf Creek Shifters story is being edited right now. Found in Hope is about Jamie and Skylar, a new character who will be introduced. They were so much fun to write, and I think you’re going to love them.
I’m also writing the third book, which is Aidan and Fallon’s (Killian’s sister) book. I have no idea when I’ll be done with it though!
Q) Do you want to add anything else? We would love to know any secret :D Also check out my review! It’s five stars!
I saw your review! Thank you so much :-) It’s such a treat to hear from readers who love the book as much as I do. Not many take the time to leave one, but it really boosts our confidence.
If you want to see any extra features, such as a playlist for my books or the glossary on how to pronounce certain words, please check out my website at www.hrsavage.com.
As for a secret...I do have on that I haven’t told anyone yet ;-) I’m working on a fun little novella (if you can call it that) for after Found in Hope releases. It’s going to be another Cat and Killian story, and will be completely free. Something happens in Found in Hope that I thought needed to be elaborated on. So make sure to follow me for updates on when that’ll be coming out!
Thank you for the interview Shweta. It was great answering these and seeing what you thought of Lost in Vengeance.
ABOUT H.R Savage
Author H.R. Savage (Heather) started reading romance at an age that made her father cringe as she tried to hide the cover behind her hands. She technically finished writing her first book in Junior High, where it mysteriously disappeared in a reformatting incident. Due to the encouragement of her English teachers at her small town school in La Verne, California, she never lost her love for the art. Now a woman who swears by the power of coffee, Chinese food, and wine (not necessarily in that order), she decided it was time to create stories from the characters in her head.
When Heather isn’t writing, outlining, or pinning pictures of hot ‘character inspirations’ on Pinterest™, she is spending time with her two beautiful children, handsome husband, and dramatically energetic Australian shepherd at their home in San Bernardino, CA.
Losing Control (A Control Series, Book 1)
By R.A. Garietz
Available for #Free with #KU
Lance wants nothing more than to win at Mr. Olympia. And if he gets to meet some women while he's in Vegas, the more the merrier. At least that's what he thought until he met Jess.
Jess loves her job managing models during fitness competitions. But she's always let everyone know she's the boss. She's never let anyone seduce her, no matter how big and buff they were. Until Lance.
But can Lance overcome his past and allow himself to let Jess in? And once Jess finds out about Lance's secret, will she ever trust him?
“Umm…Lance,” I stammer, and I feel his blue eyes bore into me. I clear my throat and attempt to take control of the conversation. “I see we have a lot of events to attend in the next few days, while we are here. Tomorrow, it looks like—”
“Who are you?” Lance speaks, cutting me off.
I freeze, and we lock eyes. “I’m your temporary replacement manager.”
He slides his upper body back across the table to stand. “I know what you are, I meant what is your name?” he asks.
My mind goes blank at his question. “Jess…Jess Brown.” I stutter.
“Nice to meet you, Jess Brown,” he says with a panty melting smile.
Okay, I’m pretty sure I’m drooling. The way my name sounded rolling off his tongue, mixed with that smile, has me feeling faint.
Still standing, I try to speak but nothing comes out. Great, he has hypnotized me with his smile…SHIT! Hearing Kyle’s voice coming from beside me, snaps me back to reality. Feeling a little embarrassed, I clear my throat and ease back down in my chair, hoping Kyle will continue with the upcoming events.
“That’s right, Lance, she is one of your managers,” Kyle says, fixing his eyes on Lance. “She’s not a fuck toy for your enjoyment while we’re here.”
I sit up straight after hearing what Kyle just said. “Excuse me, Kyle, but I think you’re getting a little out of line. Lance and I, will only be having a business relationship and nothing more.” I pause to glance between the two of them, then continue, “I don’t know what’s going on between you two, but I want nothing to do with it.”
Lance sits back in his chair with a smug smile on his face, and Kyle wastes no time jumping into the upcoming events to change the subject.
“Okay, tomorrow is the gym signing from seven till nine p.m., then Thursday at noon, is the Mr. Olympia press conference,” he reads off of the itinerary in front of him. Not looking up, he continues with, “Friday is the big day,” and reads off the location and times for each event that will take place over the next few days.
I begin nervously playing with the corners of the paper in front of me. Normally, I’m not intimidated by men and have no problem taking control of a situation, but this whole meeting has been out of the norm.
Lance sits up, resting his forearms on the table, flexing the tribal band on his right arm. He still looks like he wants to come across the table at Kyle, but he stays in his seat.
Kyle quickly flips the page to continue the list of events, when Lance has obviously had enough.
Shit. Here we go again.
“Kyle, it’s no secret I don’t give two fucks about you, so let’s get something straight,” Lance interrupts. “You work for me. You got that? Stay the fuck out of my way.” The coldness in his tone could freeze a person in their tracks. Kyle doesn’t dare speak as Lance stands up, still making eye contact, and says, “I hope you’ve filled the replacement in on how I like my shit done, I’d hate for you both to be fuck-ups.”
Mike promptly stands, leaning close to Lance. “Dude, the shit between you and Kyle has nothing to do with her. Don’t be like that,” he says, just loud enough that I can hear.
You can see the frustration written all over Lance’s face as he turns toward me. “I apologize,” he lets out a heavy breath. “I shouldn’t have said that in reference to you. I just like my shit done right, is all.”
“Again, I don’t want anything to do with what is going on between you and Kyle, Mr. James. I know how to do my job.” I say with confidence.
